Alessandro Michele | Gucci’s New Look

by Danielle Combs
“The way you dress is really the way you feel, the way you live, what you read, your choices.”

In most capacities—at least in the realm of fashion—the underdog in the design world can seemingly rise to the top and blindside naysayers in the process. Case in point: when Riccardo Tisci was appointed as the new Creative Director for Givenchy, no one had even heard of his name, let alone aware of his outstanding ability to create and execute decisive vision. Now, we look towards the new man behind the face of Gucci, Alessandro Michele. Yes, indeed he is a newcomer—not to say his resume isn’t impressive, being that he worked at Gucci in 2002 under designer, Tom Ford.

As the new creative director at Gucci, Alessandro Michele is doing things the way he sees fit and he’s designing with serious panache. With a week to design his debut collection at Gucci, Michele superseded all expectations with a runway show that ignited onlookers with clamor and sheer delight—the Gucci we once knew was no more. The new look of Gucci is better than it’s ever been—fashion editors are mad for the clothes, the newly embellished classic Gucci bag and iconic shoes and loafers. With two seasons, under his belt there’s no telling where Michele will go and what he will do—but one thing is that we’ll all be patiently waiting to see what he does next.
