Anjelica Huston

"Where there is age there is evolution. Where there is change there is growth." -Anjelica Huston

Anjelica Huston is one of the most striking actresses on the screen. Beyond her powerful height and bold Irish features, her energy commands a quiet attention from the audience.

She was born into the role of an icon. She could have turned away from the spotlight, chosen to sidestep the industry that her father, director John Huston, and her grandfather, actor Walter Huston, had forged into before her. Instead she joined them and became the third generation Oscar winner in the family.

As a teenager Anjelica moved from Ireland to the US and began modeling. In the few years before she turned to acting full time she worked with legendary photographers such as Richard Avedon and Bob Richardson. At the age of 18 she began to take small roles in her father’s movies. It was in 1985 that she played Maerose in Prizzi’s Honor, the role that elevated her to Oscar winner status.

5 years later she was recognized by the Academy again with a nomination for her performance in The Grifter’s. In 1991 she was cast as one of her own favorite characters, Morticia Addams, a performance that Huston now owns and embodies. In her recently published memoir, A Story Lately Told, Anjelica tells us stories of herself as a young girl enthralled by the idea of women such as Morticia Addams and stars such as Sophia Loren, she was a girl who “spent a lot of time in the mirror working out who [she] was”.  But not for vanity, she was determining her fate. To this day Anjelica delivers characters that are forever embedded in our memory.

Her collaborations with Wes Anderson come from a place of pure imagination and keep us wanting more. As she works on the second installation to her memoir and contemplates what her next film project will entail, we wait in eager anticipation.
