Björk

The Original Performance Artist

Despite the fact that some call her weird, wacky and just plain strange, Björk is still leading the pack in terms of pure artistry within the music industry. At times she is still deeply misunderstood, but the off-kilter musician is the first and last performance artist of her kind. With that being said, MoMA is celebrating the musician’s lengthy career with an exhibit that showcases a plethora of her best moments including her swan dress, the robots from her video “All Is Full of Love” and an installation from her latest track called “Black Lake”.

Her latest album Vulnerica is a meld of electronic sounds, strings and rather haunting lyrics that expose her pain from the singer’s breakup with her husband. Her music video for “Black Lake” which was shot in the singer’s native Iceland is heart-wrenching and depicts a wounded soul.

As a whole, Björk’s retrospective is electrifying, unpredictable and mesmerizing. The standout piece is no-doubt the “Black Lake” installation that boldly displays the singer’s artistry.

Björk will be up at MoMA until June 7, 2015.
