Olivia Wilde

"People assume actresses are afraid to get older; the truth is the roles get a whole lot more compelling once you're too old to play dumb." -Olivia Wilde

You may know Olivia Wilde from one of her stunning roles over the last few years (the beautiful Suzy Miller in Ron Howard's Rush, or the disillusioned blind date in Spike Jonz's Her), but the real Olivia Wilde is playing an even better role off-screen these days. Wilde is quickly establishing herself as an advocate for women in film as well as a budding philanthropic entrepreneur.

It's easy to see from the actress's Twitter feed alone that she has a top notch brain behind her impossibly lovely looks. Her relevant and witty blurbs offer commentary on everything from politics to social trends, feminism to pop culture. However, she's won our hearts with one particular enterprise: Conscious Commerce, a company that pairs brands with non-profits in order to promote charitable giving through everyday purchases. The website is a collaboration between Wilde and her partner Barbara Burchfield, and is chock full of amazing products that are eco-friendly and philanthropically inclined.

Just when you think she couldn't get any better, she does. As a promoter of gender equality in film, she spoke for the State of Female Justice panel about the kinds of roles available to women in Hollywood, and how we as a public can orchestrate a demand for more meaningful, groundbreaking stories with women in the forefront (not simply sidekicks and accessories in male dominated casts). Her insight on a gender-swapped script reading of "American Pie" is particularly revealing of the way women are often cornered into less significant characters.

We hope others follow this brilliant lady's lead, and continue to question social "standards" in the entertainment industry and beyond.
