CFDA Swarovski Nominee Auction

To celebrate a thirteen-year collaboration between Swarovski and CFDA, 9 extraordinary designers have been selected to create pieces related to the theme of "Lucky 13". Each designer encorporated the theme in different ways, from color to literal meaning. The auction is live today on Gavel & Grand. View each piece and  a description from the designers below:

Wes Gordon: “For my objet I chose a 1920's bronze pheasant, sitting in a radiant nest of Swarovski crystals.  I drew inspiration from the number 13—in honor of the CFDA/Swarovski award’s 13th anniversary—and its association with luck and good fortune.  I consider a bird to be my lucky charm and my collections frequently feature bird prints and feathers; even my dog is named Bird!  I hope that this bird will bring beauty and luck to its new home”

-Objet de’art: A 1920’s Bronze Pheasant, sitting in a radiant nest of Swarovski crystals

-Value: $900, Opening Bid: $250

Shane Gabier & Christopher Peters of Creatures of the Wind: “Music is always a starting point for our collection, and since this is Swarovski's 13th year of supporting the CFDA Awards, the Pixies song "No. 13 Baby" seemed like the perfect point of departure for this project.  The vintage record player served as the perfect canvas for some of our favorite colors of Swarovski crystal.”

-Objet de’art: A Swarovski-striped 70s Emerson Wildcat & No. 13 Baby

-Value: $900, Opening Bid: $250

Rosie Assoulin: "13 Frames takes on a luxurious version of sand art using the Xilion crystals. (And there may have even be a zillion crystals framed!).”

-Objet de’art: Sand Art with 13 Crystal Colors

-Value: $3,500, Opening Bid: $100

Irene Neuwirth: “I wanted to create something that felt like my jewelry – incredibly feminine but modern, playful, and colorful at the same time. I used 13 colors in the design as the theme was ‘Lucky 13.”

-Objet de’art: Swarovski Crystal Skateboard

-Value: $700, Opening Bid: $300

Marc Alary: “I picked a horse because this year it is the year of the horse, I pretty much always work around animal, movement and articulation, so obviously the horse had to be articulated, so it feels very Marc Alary and I have always wanted on of the artist model horses (vintage) since I was a kid.”

-Objet de’art: “Year of The Horse” Sculpture

-Value: $4,500, Opening Bid: $1,200

Jennifer Fisher: "Years ago one of my dear friends made me a smaller version of Lucky as a get well gift, and it has always given me strength and luck.  I decided to create a larger version for this very reason, naming him Lucky and giving him 13 of our good luck talisman charms on our signature chain to wear in honor of Swarovski's 13th anniversary.  I hope whoever is Lucky enough to take him home receives the same strength and power from him that I get from mine."

-Objet de’art: “Lucky” Figurine with black Swarovski crystals & necklace featuring 13 charms

Todd Snyder: “I loved basketball growing up in Iowa.  I moved to New York at age 23 and played City League games in Brooklyn.  I always dreamt of playing in the NBA so this is my way of getting close to that fantasy… 13 was my number in City League (my nickname was “Ghost”).”

-Objet de’art: “Hoop Dreams” Sports Jersey
