Hollywood Arrives at the Phoenix Art Museum

Smack dab in the historic city of Phoenix, Arizona, the Phoenix Art Museum has a longstanding reputation with the arts community of bringing incredible exhibits to the Southwest. For all the cinephiles west of the Mississippi, the Hollywood Costume and Hollywood Red Carpet exhibits at the museum are sure to entice and excite. Straight from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and curated by Deborah Landis, the former is a journey through over 100 years of film history separated into three acts: Act 1-Personality in film character through costume, Act 2-Notable relationships between Directors and Costume Designers, and Act 3-The most iconic costumes of film history.

From the Phoenix Art Museum:

"The exhibition...will be a rare opportunity to see the clothes worn by unforgettable characters from films such as The Wizard of Oz, My Fair Lady,Superman, Titanic, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Dark Knight Rises, and so much more. Many of the costumes have never left private and archival collections in California, and most have never been publicly displayed or seen beyond the secure walls of studio archives. It will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime event."

The second exhibit, Hollywood Red Carpet, will highlight the glamorous ensembles of leading actors worn during awards season. The exhibit will juxtapose the red carpet gowns with photos of the nominated actor in their character's costume, and expand upon the different goals of the costume designer and fashion designer. Prepare to see stunning dresses worn by Glenn Close, Jessica Chastain, Amy Adams, and more.
