Paris Couture Fall/ Winter 2014/2015

Couture... the ultimate art form of fashion! This exquisite sheath dress is formed from a vintage textile inspired by Van Gogh's 'Irises'. How fitting that one of the most exquisite couture looks of the season was reimagined in a thoroughly modern way by our new cover "Icon - Matthieu Blazy of Maison Martin Margiela".
Paris Couture Fall/ Winter 2014/2015

Couture is other worldly, reminiscent of days gone by when there seemed to be a more relaxed way of life seen in country landscape paintings and in the Rococo paintings of Marie Antoinette in all her finery. Yet there has always been a world that lives in this bubble of oppulance whilst the other 99.9% live less excessive lives, just trying to survive.

So what does it feel like to walk into your closet and glimse your portfolio of couture? Most of us will never know but for those that do, you can be assured they handle those clothes with kid gloves as they pass them down to their hiers or a famous museum. Investing in couture is a far more fabulous experience than having it grow on paper in some bankers vault. Rather a little Chanel number or a Schaparelli to remember for all time. Yet this ultimate art form of fashion, if not affordable does inspire and the irrepressible creativity will trickle down to the high street and to the lipstick color you might be coveting this fall.

The good news is there is far more choice, with this season showing a wide range of couture brand names, from Chanel, Christian Dior, Armani Prive, Jean Paul Gaultier, Elie Saab and Valentino to the new guard, Mattieu Blazy at Maison Martin Margiela, Ulyana Sergeenko and Bouchra Jarrar who gave us clothes we dream to wear day and night. As the couture collections closed I could not help but think of a closet of just a few beautiful couture pieces made just for me...sprinkled with some staples. This could be the new “sustainable!"
